Ushers
My name is Oluseyi Sonoiki.
I am the head Usher of KCP and we have very reliable ushers that make the work easy. Our visitors enjoy the friendliness and welcoming behavior of our ushers.
In modern times, the church usher has many duties. Depending on the church's denomination, size, and preferences, ushers may perform all, some, or a few of the following:
- Greet people entering the service
- Seat attendees (though it is common for attendees to seat themselves)
- Collect the tithes and offering
- Keep order at the entrance
- Clean and prepare the Church
- Count people in service
- Distributing and collecting surveys (such as visitor pamphlets)
- Distribute bulletins and service programs
- Prepare the altar for service.
Ushers are required to be punctual and time conscious as they are required to be in the church far earlier than the rest of the congregation, who may still be at Sunday school or before or during sunday school. Since they are part of the service, they need to meet early in order to pray with the clergy. Adequate spiritual preparation by the usher ensures a service full of the presence of God
1. As Ushers, we are required to Dress appropriately for ushering. Be professional, but comfortable. We are a team and we communicate with each other to make the work easy.
2. We are on the "front line", therefore we are the ones to make the first impressions of this ministry. Warmly welcome guests and regular attendees.
3. We provide a safe and healthy environment.
4. We provide directions to rest rooms and other facilities as may be needed.
5. We assist visitors to their seats. Never leave them looking for a place to sit.
6. We provide a comfortable temperature in the church (If you are head usher only)
7. We assist special needs people to enter and leave.
These are not all the Functions of ushers in the presence of God. There are many more but for want of space we shall stop here.
