Jehovah Nissi means "The Lord Our Banner". The name was revealed to the Isrealites after the defeat of the Amalekites at Rephidim (Exodus 17:8-16).

By the continuous lifting of the staff of The Lord by Moses on the hill, supported by Aaron and Hur the Isrealites led by Joshua defeated the Amalekites.
